
Established in 1639, Yarmouth is one of the Cape's oldest towns. The town is on the Mid Cape and is made up of a few villages including Yarmouth Port, South Yarmouth, West Yarmouth, Great Island, Bass River, and Yarmouth. Being centrally located on the Cape, Yarmouth has many shops, restaurants, and entertainment options that attract many residents and visitors year-round. Yarmouth was once a sea captain's town and these nautical roots continue to flourish in the present day. There is a mile-long stretch on Route 6A called "Captains Mile", once home to a number of sea captains. There are also many historic and beautiful homes on the north side of Yarmouth, as well as antique shops and restaurant staples.
There are many ways to enjoy life in Yarmouth. Gray's Beach has a popular boardwalk and some of the best views on the Cape. Here you can experience marine life in the salt marshes and walk right onto a sandy beach. There are a number of public beaches in Yarmouth and many homes have private or shared access to the water. Yarmouth beaches include Gray's Beach, Bass River Beach, Bay View Beach, Seaview Beach, and many others. There is also great access to golfing and Bass River Golf Course is one of the oldest courses on the Cape.
